Garath Davies

Gareth has been kind enough to mention me, so I return the favour and had added him to the links bar.

Another world is possible

Not if you go round fly posting the place it isn't.

The organisers of the European Social Forum talk about "environmental crisis" but don't see any link to the way they behave in their local environment.

Blackheath Residents Association

I'm just off out to meet the leading lights of this organisation who are particularly concerned about the lincening regime and the impact it has on their quality of life.

London in Bloom

I didn't get to go to the ceremony, the Mayor, Steve, had that honour, but I understand that we got a Silver Award.  Congratulations to all those that took part.

Unfortunately that means that we don't get to participate in next year's Britain in Bloom as there were other boroughs who did better than we did this time.

Politicians and pop

Guardian Unlimited Politics | Special Reports | Conservative tastes

"Thinking about a politician listening to rock music is like imagining your parents having sex: you not only lose all respect for them, it puts you off the whole concept."

Now I like talking about my music, it's something I spend lots of my disposable income on, but if I'm doing this to you let me know and I'll stop.

Residents meeting

An hour of fairly intense discussion with the residents of Blackheath about the problems caused by drinkers in the village.  I have to admit that I've not spent a lot of time focusing on licensing in my 7 years as a councillor, but I think that is about to change.fficeffice" />

Luckily I'd taken the time to read the draft document that the council is consulting on at the moment - otherwise I think my audience might have been less than impressed. Not that they were convinced by its contents, which they're very suspicious will be a charter for publicans to do as they will.  I have higher hopes for it, but the proof will be something that will effect their lives so I understand their anxiety.

The next step is to have a meeting with residents, the councillors, the police and licensing officers.

I hope that if/when these issues are sorted out that these very well organised residents will go on to look at other issues that they can make a positive difference over, and that they will be a force for improving the area they live in for some time to come.
